Supreme Court issues interim order to bar teachers from party politics
The Supreme Court has issued an interim order barring the teachers elected as delegates to the General Convention of the Nepali Congress from being voters in any level of convention and working committee.
The government teachers had filed a writ petition in the Supreme Court alleging that the Congress representative was elected and that it was against the prevailing law. A bench of Justice Tej Bahadur KC issued the interim order on Sunday.
The order said, "An interim order has been issued in accordance with Rule 49 of the Supreme Court Rules 2074 to prevent the candidates who are currently holding the post of Regional Representative of the Nepali Congress from becoming candidates and candidates in the Central Convention and Central Working Committee." Inform the opposition about this order and follow the law. '
Bhakta Bahadur Basnet and others had filed a writ petition demanding to stop the teachers from becoming voters and becoming candidates in the conventions and working committees of any level of political parties.
Stating that the prevailing law prohibits national service teachers from participating in politics and provides for punishment if they participate, the Supreme Court has ruled that this act is against the law at first sight.
The Election Commission had issued a statement on December 22 instructing the political parties not to make teachers, staffs and professors who are holding public office members members of the party. From online news
