This information was given by the spokesperson of the Ministry of Health and Population, Dr. Sangeeta Kaushal Mishra at a regular press conference.  Earlier, on December 6, health ministry officials said an Omicron variant had been found in a foreigner who had come to Nepal from South Africa and another person who had come in contact with him.  Authorities are also investigating those who have been in contact with people who have been infected, officials said.  According to Dr. Krishna Prasad Poudel, Chief of the Division of Epidemiology and Disease Control, this variant of coronavirus has been detected in three people in Nepal with the confirmation of the latest infection.  Scientists have been saying that the Omicron variant spreads faster than other variants of the coronavirus.  Currently, this variant has increased the number of infections in countries including the UK. The Supreme Court has issued an interim order barring the teachers elected as delegates to the General Convention of the Nepali Congress from being voters in any level of convention and working committee.  The government teachers had filed a writ petition in the Supreme Court alleging that the Congress representative was elected and that it was against the prevailing law. A bench of Justice Tej Bahadur KC issued the interim order on Sunday.  The order said, "An interim order has been issued in accordance with Rule 49 of the Supreme Court Rules 2074 to prevent the candidates who are currently holding the post of Regional Representative of the Nepali Congress from becoming candidates and candidates in the Central Convention and Central Working Committee."
